Generate a practice quiz from any PDF

Silas turns your reading into multiple-choice, true/false, and short-answer questions, with an explanation for every answer and a link to the page it came from.

How the quiz generator works

Upload the material

A textbook chapter, lecture notes, a reading list, or a whole folder of PDFs. Word documents and images work too.

Ask for a quiz

“Give me 15 questions on chapter 3, mostly multiple choice, exam difficulty.” Silas mixes multiple-choice, true/false, and short-answer questions.

Answer and learn

Take the quiz in the chat. Every question has an explanation of the right answer and points to the document and page it was written from.

Export it

Download the quiz as a PDF study guide, CSV, or Markdown, or copy it as an Anki deck or JSON.

Questions you can check against the source

The problem with AI-written quizzes is trusting the answer key. A wrong answer that sounds right does more damage than no quiz at all. Silas writes each question from a passage in your document and keeps the reference, so when an answer surprises you, you can open the page and settle it.

It works on anything you can upload: a single paper, a 400-page textbook, or a folder of lecture notes. For quicker recall practice, turn the same material into flashcards, or ask the PDF questions directly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I generate a quiz from a PDF?

Upload the PDF to Silas and ask for a quiz: how many questions, which topics, and how hard. Silas reads the document and writes questions with answers and explanations. You can also run the Quiz workflow to generate one in the background from a whole folder.

What question types are supported?

Multiple choice, true/false, and short answer. Each question includes the correct answer, a short explanation, and the source document and page it came from.

Can teachers use it to write quizzes for a class?

Yes. Generate a draft from your reading or slides, ask Silas to adjust difficulty or swap questions, then export it as a PDF or CSV to use in your own LMS or handouts.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Yes. Pages without a text layer are read with a vision model, so scanned handouts and photographed pages can still be quizzed.

How is this different from asking ChatGPT for a quiz?

A general chatbot writes questions about the topic. Silas writes them from your document and cites the page, so you can check every answer against the source and the questions match what your course covers.
